And, in what may soon be another island controversy, there are reports that a blasting machine has arrived on the island of San Pedro this week.

It caused a stir within the community, as to where it would be going and what it would be used for.

The Area Rep says that it will be used for excavating and here's why.

Andre Perez, Area Representative of Belize Rural South

"I did find out and it's a machine for excavating the quarry up north. And that quarry you were talking about there. They are very compliant. They have everything in place. And they are compliant for the mining. it's just a bigger machine to produce the quarry produce the material which is crucial for the streets and remember that the town of San Pedro we have an aim of 9 miles but those 9 miles we have to prepare those streets with white mall. We are blessed that we have this white mall available up north of Ambergris Caye. Here is the key thing about it, and I believe that the community of San Pedro understands it.The material being provided for the streets in San Pedro if we were to talk about costs bringing nine loads of white on a barge from Belize city to Ambergris Caye would around $15,000 that's what it would cost. with this resource available natural resource available and we are doing it the right way correctly in compliance. This is what it is creating for the council and for the town to prepare these streets for paving. Millions of dollars that is the bright side we need to look at. It's true we are looking at huge machinery The development of Ambergris Caye is growing so fast that we have to prepare but everything so far shows that it is being done in compliance."
