And from the courtroom to the marketplace…tonight, Belizeans are facing an alarming increase in vegetable prices and scarcity. If you plan to buy vegetables tomorrow, be prepared for empty shelves or high prices. Local produce such as cabbage, tomatoes, sweet pepper, and habanero are high in demand yet scarce and expensive. So, why are farmers struggling to provide basic vegetables during a time of such high demand? Our summer intern Halle Fuller went to the Michael Finnegan Market to ask vendors, customers, and business owners what the scarcity is like and what's causing it:
