We also asked Coye for the status on the trade tariffs imposed by the US months ago. The 90 day period is soon set to expire, and according to Coye they've been told to wait it out, he explained what that meant.

Christopher Coye, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance

"What I understood in discussions with, with US government officials was basically that we hold off until July. We basically sit tight until July as that 90 day period expires. That 90 day period was to provide an opportunity for the US, really to negotiate and seek and conclude arrangements with their main trading partners. The top 20 trading partners, Belize or even Belize as a part of Caricom or the entirety of Caricom, actually does not rise to the level of that top 20. So when that time comes, I believe that will be more a discussion between the US and Caricom, more so than just US and Belize."
