And, we did dutifully go to the Chairman - whose brother, we should add, owns the country's largest cable company which is also rumoured to be in the acquisition bundle.

The chairman kept it vague, while urging 7News to - as he put it - stop making mischief, but did say they're always looking for opportunities:

Markhelm Lizarraga, Chairman, Board of Directors, BTL
"BTL is always interested in becoming more efficient. We had put out a statement about the fact. It's a pity that you never properly requested that information, but rather than speculate, and cause mischief, which your station is famous for, mischief makers. But yes, the short answer is we're always looking for new opportunities. Our balance sheet or financial position is healthy today. We've turned the company around. Not only is infrastructure benefiting, not only is staff benefiting, but even shareholders are benefiting. We believe that for the company to be truly successful, not only do we have to protect and preserve our assets, we have to protect our workers, our staff, and we have to protect our shareholders. And if you look at the history over the last five years, that's exactly what we've been doing. This is a business that requires a lot of capital investment, and we have excess capacity in our country. So we're always looking for opportunities to become more efficient so that the people of this country can benefit from modern technology, from efficient technology and affordable technology."
