We broke the news on Tuesday, and today, government made it official: the Government of Belize is buying the Canadian owned Fortis Inc.'s assets in Belize - namely the hydro dams and its one-third ownership of BEL. The PM announced it today when he spoke at a BTL event:

"So I can say yes we are going to be the proud owners, all of us in this room the proud owners of 100% of Fortis Belize which is going to age named Hydro Belize and 100% of BTL, BEL shares so we are going to be the true owners of our own destiny." Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will table a Bill that seeks parliamentary authorisation for the acquisition of the hydroelectric plants and Fortis' 33.3% share in BEL.
