If you're a Belize City resident who drives past North Front Street Street with any regularity - you will have noticed the brightly colored structures going up where the Northern Fishermen parking lot used to be.

So what will be housed there? A few weeks ago we learned that it will be a fancy fish market:

Evan Tillett, Director of Tourism
"It's actually a project where it is a fish market and it is a fish market that will have restaurants there that you can buy your fish and take it to the restaurant and get it fired and get it right there. It is something that is popular within the Caribbean destinations. In Barbados they have this place called Oistins where you can get fresh fish and that sort of thing. It is the same concept, but at a much higher level and like the CEO said, it adds value to the Belize City product and it is a part of the entire sustainable tourism master plan to continue to develop Belize City."

Salvation Army Soldiering On For Seniors

The Salvation Army keeps soldering on by assisting those in need in the Christmas season. And today they distributed vouchers to the elderly so they can get some grocery shopping done. Jomarie Lanza stopped by their HQ for the event:

A Party For The Kids Of Cops

And at another HQ, the staff at the Raccoon Street police station were getting into the Christmas spirit by hosting a Christmas party for the children of police officers. Dozens of children received gifts and snacks courtesy of the department, and the OC for Eastern division explained why they decided to take on this initiative for their officers and families.

Cops Ops For Christmas

Given the level of movement, gift shopping and traveling occurring these past few weeks, The Belize Police Department has increased patrols and police presence in busy areas to keep the public safe.

We all know that we tend to see a spike in robberies and other crimes during this time, and Sr Supt. Raymundo Reyes says they have to do everything in their power to prevent christmas crime:
