The police booth situated near the Coast Guard base on the George Price highway has been a factor for years. But, reports reaching 7News today was that it was permanently shut down - all the signs were removed, and even the air conditioner taken out of the booth, our sources said. We asked the OC for Eastern division about this today and he says they are still on duty in the area, but with limited check points.

Sr. Supt. Raymundo Reyes, OC Eastern Division
"What we are doing is that we are limiting the checkpoints being done in that area, but police officers' presence will still be at that checkpoint. In the event that we have information of any drugs fire coming in, or in the event that we have a robbery and we need to intercept any vehicle, the officers will be on the ground."

"So it is not that we are closing down the checkpoint."
