Minister of State in the Ministry of Economic Transformation Dr Osmond Martinez is also responsible for the sugar industry as part of the Prime Minister's portfolio. And he met with key stakeholders of Belize's northern sugar industry on Wednesday to address critical challenges and strengthen coordination across the sector.
The meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, SICB, SIRDI, BSI, farmers' associations, SIF and more.
The discussions revolved around harvesting and delivery readiness, pre-harvest sampling and cane testing, sugar roads and infrastructure updates, among other issues.
A press release says, quote, "participants agreed on a collective commitment to be a more coordinated, farmer-focused and sustainable sugarcane industry."
