And all while BTL has said that it has already paid 10 million dollars in severance payments to the employees covered by a recent CCJ judgment.
But now these former workers who are out in the cold say how can it be that they can't get paid while the company finds money to toy with the idea of buying SMART:
Emily Turner, BCWJ Rep.,
"Well at first you guys know it was a whole set of them and so it was old house I mean like I mean like three or four old house, right? But now we end up with the other three old house left so only one now we are interested in."
"But that old house in a change, that's still not old house. Lo and behold, BTL has $180 million to spend on these old houses. And thinking that you cut it back to 80 million and make it better for me, no, they're still an old house."
"And I'm telling you, I have recently left. I have driven innovations in BTL. There is nothing, nothing that Smart can give us that we don't already have, not even the customers. Because a lot of customers have two phones and your pocket only could give you, if you're salary, $100 or $1,000, only $1,000, you only could spend so much for a phone."
"So don't tell us that it's because of the customers. We can beat Smart to the ground. We don't need to buy them for $80 million. These people in this room know what Make the Switch is. We have done those promotions."
"We have set up everything from customer service to the billing systems to the public relations to the marketing. We know what to make the switch, beat them to the ground. What are we buying this thing for?"
"$80 million for? What infrastructure they have? Now, I have a lot of my brothers and sisters who have late fiber all over this country from north to south, east to west. They know where exactly the fiber run under the sea everywhere overhead."
"Everything, everything. They know. There is nothing smart as that we don't already have."
