The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry is demanding lower fuel prices and it is putting increasing pressure on the government over high fuel costs.
They started on April 21, 2026, when the Chamber sent a formal request to Prime Minister Briceño demanding "greater transparency" regarding domestic fuel pump pricing.
In a follow-up letter on May 27th, BCCI President Giacomo Sanchez directly urged Prime Minister and Minister of Finance John Briceño to implement temporary tax cuts on fuel to shield businesses and households from crippling inflation.
The Chamber is now urging the Briceño administration to introduce urgent, short-term fiscal interventions, including Temporary reductions in applicable fuel excise duties. Targeted fiscal measures to ensure global price drops are directly passed through to domestic pump prices.
The BCCI emphasized that these interventions are crucial to protecting the country's "productive sector"-especially Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises.
The Office of the Prime Minister has yet to publicly comment on whether it will consider the Chamber's request for a temporary tax rollback.
