It is not unusual that we report on cases where taxi-men are victims of robberies as passengers board their vehicles and take them on a robbery ride. Tonight, however, that is not the case. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Joel Esquivel, a mason of St. Matthew's Village told police that on Friday he hopped into a cab at the corner of West Canal and Cemetery Road in Belize City. While it should have been a routine drop, the taxi man did not think of it in that manner and instead took Esquivel to Farber's Road where he allegedly held him up at gunpoint and robbed him of 250 Belize dollars and a watch valued at 45 dollars. Police are investigating to determine who the cab driver is.
