Police have made no arrests for the homicide of 84-year-old shopkeeper Eustace Vernon.

What is known today is what was known yesterday: at sometime on Tuesday, a burglar or burglars entered his home likely through a window on the roof; they then tied up his feet, stuffed a rag in his mouth and robbed him. They left him like that and Vernon who lives alone would later choke on the rag in his mouth.

For his family comprising over 20 children, the robbery has provoked outrage that this long-time neighborhood grocer, so well known in the community would meet such a terrible end. And they mean to get answers; today his son Marvin Vernon told us they are offering a $2,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Marvin Vernon, Eustace Vernon's Son
"He was a great father and man. Was living there for the past 20 plus years. He taught us to be independent and he worked hard for what he got. So I expected the neighbourgood to be cooperative in finding out what happened. He was a like a legend cause he stuck in the area through thick and thin and helped people whenever he could."

"So I am appealing to the public, personally, it will be confidential. Just call us and tell us whatever you know and we are offering a small reward of $2,000."

Those with information can call the police help line at 922 or the family at 601-0529 or 2070276.
