Organizers for the mayor's ball today handed over a $20,000 check to Belize City Mayor David Fonseca.

The money was raised for the homeless at the mayor's charity banquet and ball held last Friday at the House of Culture. The city council says 450 guests showed up for the worthy cause at $150 a head. On the list of attendees were the prime minister, governor general, and a visiting fire chief from Evanston, Illinois. And they were joined by a who's who from cabinet ministers to Caribbean recording artist Ernie Smith.

The ball hoped to raise to 50 thousand but organizers aren't complaining.
