Last Thursday police constable Crispin Jeffries Jr. was almost heroic on the scene of a house fire on Vernon Street as he fearlessly ran into the inferno to remove a volatile hot dog cart.
Tonight Jeffries has gone from a hero to an accused rapist. The well-known 29-year-old constable and former Radio DJ is out on bail after allegedly raping a 20-year-old female on Saturday night.
The victim tells police that she was in a group of six - 3 males and 3 females who checked into the Diamond motel mile 4 on the Northern Highway after a night of partying in Hattieville. The victim paired up with Jeffries in one of the rooms and claims she told Jeffries that she didn't want to have intercourse. When she attempted to leave the room she claims the constable grabbed her, threw her on the bed, and raped her.
Jeffries was charged Saturday and police and family members of the victim are saying that friends of PC Jeffries have since threatened her. Mathias Mariano whose son was killed in September of last year at the hands of a BDF officer today spoke on behalf of the family saying that Jeffries' father, Sr. Superintendent Crispin Jeffries Sr. was party to the threatening taking place.
Mathias Mariano, Relative of Rape Victim
"For sure he [referring to Crispin Jeffries Sr.] came in the vicinity of my sister's house bringing around two thugs. He didn't come personally but he sat in his car and members of the family saw it was him. One of the guys was quiet and the other one came in a nice way. But after we told our niece that the guy came with the senior superintendent of police. I think the whole idea was for my niece to drop the charges against Crispin Jeffries Jr."
"What we discussed is that the accused is the son of a senior superintendent of police and his action is not worthy of - it gives bad example to the community. We are offended and this was on called for."
"It was just 5 or 6 months ago that we suffered at the hands of law enforcement and this makes it worse."
Senior Superintendent Jeffries today declined comment on those allegations.
Crispin Jeffries Jr. today appeared in magistrate's court where he was read charges of rap after which he was offered and met bail in the sum of $5,000 or two sureties of the same amount. As for the two men police have since detained them and police say they could be charged.
