What would you want to do to two men who killed your wife and the mother of your children?
Most of us would say: "hang em high." But not Lindbergh Tucker. You may remember him as the husband of Cherry Tucker - the woman who was killed as she sat in a car with a gentleman friend in the University Heights areas.
Lindbergh emerged into the public spotlight when he gave a remarkable interview in the wake of his wife's terrible death; yes he was sad, but without being bitter or vindictive. He's kept that serene demeanor throughout the ordeal and that's how Keith Swift found him today - the day after the verdict: where he spoke to a man free from bitterness - and determined to forgive.
Keith Swift Reporting,
A year and nine months ago Lindbergh Tucker's life was torn apart when his wife, Cherry, was killed during a cross-city murder spree. Last night Patrick Robateau and Leslie Pipersburgh were convicted for the crime. But the verdict is no consolation for Lindbergh Tucker because he harbors no anger or hate towards Robateau and Pipersburgh. In fact - to the men who killed his wife and the mother of their children, he offers forgiveness.
Lindbergh Tucker, Cherrý's Husband
"I want them to know they are clean within my heart and if they need me to come and testify to them and lead them to the savior, I would be glad to do that."
Keith Swift,
"I take it that you won't testify for them to get the death penalty."
Lindbergh Tucker,
"Definitely not. As I said I have nothing against those guys or anyone else out there. No one. If I am to be completely healed I need to forgive everyone."
And Tucker harbors no illusions, he accepts that Robateau and Pipersburgh committed murder. But he says in the one year and nine months since the murder - as a devout Christian - he has come to accept it.
Lindbergh Tucker,
"I positively never thought every thought I could be cut down so low. To be truthful my wife was good to me and my family - she put me where I am. She was not better than me - that's for a fact. Her life has been taken away from her couple years before her death. In other words she was living under a curse and the grace of God was shielded from her and this was the way the curse was meant for her. All odds were against her."
That is Tucker's strong conviction - and he ended with some strong advice for Patrick Robateau and Leslie Pipersburgh.
Lindbergh Tucker,
"I just wanna say to those guys from the bottom of my heart, the Lord I am sure doesn't condemn you guys. If you guys confess with your mouth and believe from bottom of your the heart and you believe the Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins, you will saved."
A dedicated father above all else, Lindbergh Tucker has adjusted his work schedule to give more time to his children.
