By all accounts Gabriel Urbina Jr. is a dangerous criminal, he is a recently convicted rapist and kidnapper plus an accused murderer.
But you might want to look at his picture closely because tonight Gabriel Urbina Jr. is on the run. And the story gets worse because Urbina escaped from the holding cell at the Corozal police station this afternoon by, get this: prying open rotten bars on his cell.
Urbina along with Omar Vellos and Mark Vega were convicted only yesterday in the Corozal session of the Supreme Court on two counts each of kidnapping. Vega was found guilty of an additional two counts of rape while Urbina was convicted on a count each of rape and unnatural crime. The hammer also came down on Vellos for a rape charge.
All the charges for the trio date back to June 13th of 2002 when they abducted a couple from the Corozal sea wall and took them into Orange Walk near the People's Stadium. The male victim managed to escape but the girl was raped.
A jury convicted all three yesterday and Justice Adolph Lucas was to sentence them tomorrow. In anticipation of that sentencing appearance, all three convicts were being held at the Corozal police station when Urbina made his bold escape.
Not only is Urbina running from his sentencing on yesterday's convictions but also a murder rap for the June 13th murder of Susanna Petkan in Orange Walk Town. No word on when that trial was supposed to start but tonight police have issued an all points bulletin for Gabriel Urbina Jr.
