7NEWS has confirmed that tomorrow UDP Cayo West Area Representative Erwin Contreras will be served with a summons to answer charges of aggravated assault and issuing insulting words to a police officer.

The charges stem from Sunday March 28th at the Succotz Village council elections. From what we understand, police sergeant Myles was in the process of detaining a young man for drunk and disorderly conduct when Contreras intervened. Contreras allegedly grabbed the sergeant by his uniform and used insulting words. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Contreras is in his second term as member of the House of Representatives. He is the second UDP member of the house to be charged for assault on a police officer as Patrick Faber was slapped with similar charges late last year.
