He is a third form student at Excelsior High School but instead of sitting in class, Maurice Felix is in a jail cell at the Hattieville prison awaiting trial for murder.
The 19 year old was charged just this past Tuesday for murdering Michael Skeet way back on January 3rd. And the problems don't end there for Felix as he is also awaiting trial on separate charges for the attempted murder of David Wade back in December of last year.
Those are very serious charges for this high school student but according to his mother Janet Felix, her son is the victim of over-zealous police investigators who have framed him.
We admit it is not the first time a mother has defended an accused child but we decided to give her a hearing. She told us it is impossible for son to have killed Michael Skeet because he was at home with her celebrating her birthday.
Janet Felix, Claims Son Was Framed
"They charged him with Michael Skeet's murder but when Michael Skeet got murdered, Maurice was at home. If he was not at home then I couldn't say nothing, I would just have to listen to what the victims and anybody else had to say but he was at home. The family didn't know that Michael died until Saturday morning like close on to 10 o'clock because the 3rd of January is my birthday and we had big preparations here and so Maurice was here."
Keith Swift,
"So you are saying your son couldn't have killed Michael Skeet because he was with you celebrating your birthday?"
Janet Felix,
"He was home. He was out on the street and then he came home and then he went out Saturday morning and came back home and said Michael Skeet was dead. And he said it like that because he knew that we know Michael Skeet."
Keith Swift,
"Your son was also charged with the attempted murder of another guy - David..."
Janet Felix,
"David Wade. From the time the fella (sic) died they said it was my son. From the night my daughter came crazy on a bicycle saying they said Maurice killed a boy and when she got here…my son was sitting right there and I said it can't him because see Maurice right here."
Janet Felix also alleges that on Saturday night, a plain clothe police officer stormed into her Port Loyola home and demanded to see Maurice who was incidentally not charged yet for Skeet's murder and was sleeping. She refused and she said the officer said he wanted both Maurice and Dalton Reneau. Now if you remember, Dalton Reneau was murdered late Saturday night just hours after Janet Felix claims this police officer was looking for him.
Maurice's next court appearance is next Wednesday. The 19 year old missed his ATLIB exams for entrance into Sixth Form because of his legal troubles.
