After being a fugitive for 9 days, police in the north have finally caught up with accused murderer Jose Coyoc.
This morning, the 32-year-old fugitive was turned in to Corozal police. Coyoc had been on the run since last Tuesday night when he allegedly murdered Xaibe villager Apolonio Tun. Witnesses told 7NEWS that Coyoc armed with a pistol, a shotgun and a knife and broke into Tun's house where he assaulted his 16-year-old daughter who was sleeping. Tun went to his daughter's rescue and that is when witnesses say Coyoc mercilessly shot him in his own home.
Police feared Coyoc had fled the border but it seems didn't venture far. He is now facing the charge of murder.
It's noteworthy that he had been accused of another murder before.
