Last night the news was about a 15-year-old girl holding down a 13 year old so that she could be raped by an older man. Well tonight it doesn't get any better, as a mother is tonight sitting in jail accused of trying to kill her own daughter.
The mother is Unitedville resident Sherlene Myvett and the allegation is that one week ago today she brutally beat her 12 year old daughter so badly, that the girl ended up in the hospital.
The girl reported the incident to social workers who then turned the case over to police. She told investigators that when she came home from school last Thursday, her mother became angry and launched into a violent tirade. The girl claims that her mother placed a cord around her neck and began to drag her around the yard after which she proceeded to beat her with a machete.
The girl was treated at the San Ignacio Town hospital for her injuries while her mother 38-year-old Sherlene Myvett was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and harm. She was arraigned in court today and a magistrate denied her bail. Myvett is tonight in the remand section of the Hattieville prison until her next court appearance on July 1st.
