A 19-year-old student was killed in a deadly one car accident on the Western Highway last night.

Jamielee Zelaya was the passenger in a Ford Ranger pickup driven by her 17-year-old cousin Noamar Zelaya when the pickup flipped just outside Belmopan between miles 46 and 47. Jamielee died on impact from the severe from head and body injures. The driver and one other passenger received only superficial injuries and both were treated as outpatients at the Belmopan Hospital.

In a sad aside, Jamielee was returning home to Esperanza Village from Belize City where she had just registered for classes at Saint John's College. Her cousin Noamar had just received his driver's license two weeks ago. Police say pending the outcome of their investigations, Noamar Zelaya could face criminal charges in connection with his cousin's death.
