A teenager is laid up in the KHMH tonight with a gunshot wound to his rear end and now his family is demanding answers from the Police Department. The family says wanton abuse of power by police officers is what landed 16-year-old Mark Jones in the KHMH. His sister Tanya Bailey alleges that not only did police shoot the 16-year-old in his rear but they also beat him.
Tanya Bailey, Mark’s Sister
“A guy reported to the police that my brother has a gun and they went to look for him. When he saw the police he ran from them. Instead of shooting a warning shot in the air to let my brother stop, they shot him in his behind and it came through his private. After my brother dropped they started beating him in the head and according to a neighbor she asked the police why they are beating him after they had already shot him. She said the police told her to shut up because she will get her share. She shut up and the police then threw him in the back of the pickup and brought him to the hospital. So we don’t really know what they will do to him or what really happened.”
Keith Swift,
Do you know what is his condition? You said he was shot?
Tanya Bailey, Mark’s Sister
“All I know is that he got shot in his behind and they beat him. I haven’t really seen him yet so I can’t say exactly how bad it is.”
Keith Swift,
And your brother Mark Jones is only 16 years old?
Tanya Bailey, Mark’s Sister
“Yes he is only 16 and he is very small. So I say that even if the police already shot him they had no right to beat him two times in the head with the gun and thing. I think it is unfair.”
Mark Jones underwent surgery at the KHMH this evening. The bullet entered his rear end and exited through his groin area. Despite the fact that he was shot in the behind, police say he was advancing on the officers in a threatening manner.
