The staggering tally of death keeps mounting and another murder has been recorded in the Belize District. Sometime after 7:45 this morning Ladyville police were called out to the northern end of Marage Road where they found, first, a pool of blood, and a few hundred feet away the body of 24 year old Kenroy Kelly. Why was he killed? That's what police have been trying to find out, and Alfonso Noble was in Ladyville in search of a motive.
Alfonso Noble Reporting, [From Ladyville]
This morning at around 7:45 police were called out here to this deserted, unpaved stretch of Marage Road where residents had reported seeing these blood stains on the road. Police came out to investigate.
Inspector Albert Kelly, Ladyville Police
"We saw the blood and while conducting investigations in the immediate area we discovered the body of a male person lying about 100 yards in the nearby bushes suffering from head injuries and what appeared to be machete and stab wounds. The body was later identified to be that of Kenroy Kelbert Kelly of a Belize City address."
"We believe he might have tried to escape and he was followed by his attacker or attackers and then where we found him was where the fatal blow was inflicted upon him."
"We haven't gotten anything yet as to say when he was last seen yesterday. But from what we have observed, probably it happened late last night or early this morning."
Kenroy Kelly's friend Therese Plunkett says that as far as she knew he had no enemies but he did have lots of friends with whom he'd take drives with.
Therese Plunkett, Victim's Friend
"Several times he used to be in vehicles with friend. Friends who were probably his good friends. But that's all I know. I would really want to find out right now why this happened to him. According to the police they say it could have been last night they picked him up and took him way up to Ladyville. But Kenroy doesn't live in Ladyville. Kenroy live right here in Belize City. He is a boy who is hard working."
Alfonso Noble,
"Did he have problems with anybody?"
Therese Plunkett, Victim's Friend
"Not that I know about. Anytime he leaves work he stays home. Most of the time he would be home."
But last night he was out and he came here to Marage road in Ladyville where he was killed in a murder witnessed only by abandoned scrap trucks, and discarded coke crates. The nearest house is 200 yards away but residents here say they heard nothing unusual area. Those we spoke to say the news came as a surprise even as this deserted and at night dark street is often the venue for strange activities.
Area Resident,
"It is a area where people for privacy would drive back there. But I am surprised because we never really have killings like that in this area. Last night when I came in from church about after 10 I didn't see anything suspicious when they dropped me off. We don't really have this kind of violence in this area in general."
That changed last night however and now the question is why and who hacked 24 year old Kenroy Kelly to death.
This latest killing is the third in the Belize district this week.
