A Chinese grocery store was gutted by fire last night.

Shortly after 11, authorities received news of a fire at #3 Magazine Road where a small grocery store operated by Keo Herng was burning. While the department was able to control the blaze they today sifted through ashes to try to determine the cause of the fire. We spoke to Herng's landlady who says she arrived there to find her building ablaze.

"When we reached here last night the place was already burnt. The fire engine was already here and the Chinese man who occupies the place wasn't here at the time. When we got here they were almost finished."

"We don't really know what happened or what caused the fire. I spoke to him (my tenant) afterwards and he said that he was at a party so we don't know. He said he was at a party and while he was there it was like 11:30 and he told his friend he had to go home and when he arrived we were already here and the place was already burnt."

"He says he thinks that he forgot to close his door. I think given the times we are living no one who is going out should forget to close his or her door. I don't know how you could think of leaving your home and forgetting to close the door."

The house was not insured and Keo Herng was the sole occupant.
