A mother of five was sent to jail today, to serve 5 years hard time for forging a $300 check.

On Tuesday Bernadine Mckoy Reid pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a forged document before Justice Adolph Lucas. On May 12th of last year, Reid bought items valued at $100 from Dave's Furniture World with a forged $300 check.

Today she appeared for what might have been expected to be a mild sentence because after all Dave's only got burnt for $100. But it's not quite that simple, it turns out, it's not the first time she's appearing for such an offence. She had 10 previous convictions and Justice Adolph Lucas told her that she should have already gotten a warning on committing these kinds of crimes but she hasn't. With that she was sentenced to 5 years in prison. She wept as she was taken to the police mobile for immediate transfer to the Hattieville prison.
