And while they do so in this case they are doing the same for another murder that occurred just an hour after this one. At around 9 on Saturday the police responded to west canal where they found the body of 24 year old Kenrick Johnson. Johnson for the second time in seven months had been shot as he stood in the very alleyway where he had been shot in January:

It was dejavu in the worst kind of way for Kenrick Johnson. Dejavu because on the 22nd of January of this year Johnson was shot numerous times at this alleyway that led to a house where he stayed. While seven months ago he was lucky and survived the attack the same could not be said for him on Saturday night. At around 9 he was gunned down at the very spot where he had been shot at earlier, this time however he died. His mother Elena Gabourel says that now those left behind will suffer.

Elena Gabourel – Kenrick Johnson’s mother

“It looks like they gave him life, so they decided to take it. All I have to say is that whatever they have done to my son they have it coming back to them because what you do here it does not take years it takes days. They took away a loving son, a loving father, a brother, a cousin and a nephew. So whatever tears my children and grandchildren drop it’s on their shoulder".

"My son he had four kids and two step kids. There are six children who will cry for hunger on their shoulder. I am hurt because they did not give my son his life so they should not take his life. My son is not a cartel, he’s not a drug dealer, he was not a murderer. When he got killed all that was in his pocket was five dollars and twenty five cents. So they killed him out of idleness and they have to answer to God."

And while she leaves the judging to god she is in disbelief that her son was killed, because after the January attempt on his life, he reformed his habits.

Elena Gabourel

“My son changed his lifestyle that he didn’t even go out in the night. My son was sitting in front of his door almost inside was going to sleep when they froze him with a gun at his head. But they got to pay, they will pay."

“What you sew you got to reap”

The only consolation for this mother who can only hope that her words prove prophetic. Reporting for Seven News Alfonso Noble.

Police found 10 expended 9 millimeter shells in the area and are looking for the shooter.
