Mayor David Fonseca could not put it any more simply than he did on Friday, city hall simply does not have any money to pay severance to the city council workers who have been fired since the privatization of the city's cleanup. But "cash flow or no", the Christian Workers Union who represent the majority of the over two hundred workers today began to apply some pressure in the hope that the workers
receive compensation. The CWU issued a release in which it condemns the actions of the city council in delaying the payment of entitlements to their sanitation employees. It further states that the continuing action of non-payment is a blatant violation of their employees' rights under the laws of Belize. Concluding the CWU asks that government intervene to end what it calls an inhumane action by the Belize city council.
