Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted the police station at Libertad village in the Corozal district. Sometime around 10 last night, fire broke out in the lower flat of the two storey building that houses the police station and the police officer's residence on the upper flat. Reports are that there was one person- a man- who was in the station's cell block under lock down at the time of the fire when the fire started. The officer at the station was unaware of the blaze until he was alerted by neighbors. He quickly went downstairs and managed to free the prisoner but was unable to salvage anything from his own residence. he and his seven children and wife are now homeless as they lost everything. the Libertad village council is appealing to persons who can help to do so by contacting the vice chairman Jorge Aldana at phone number 423-0150 or 602-1212.
