Residents in Belize City upset over police search

Even as confidence in the police department ebbs low with the latest string of abuses, the department continues doing its work of detecting and preventing crime. But no one wanted to hear that half an hour ago in the west street area where there were tense moments. At six this evening at the corner of West and Prince streets. Police officers conducted a search at a residence at the junction. But police had to contend with residents who were none to happy about the police's presence and their search. While there was jeering at the officers the tension did not escalate too much and at the end of it officers did not find any drugs but they did detain about 6 young men who were inside the house at the time. while residents claim that police ruffed them up - including a 10 year old girl - police say that some of those detained are wanted in connection with shootings and other crimes that occurred in the city over the past few weeks.
