The Northern Highway between miles two and three is as busy a stretch of road as you'll find, particularly in the evening rush hour after 5:00 p.m., but that traffic was no deterrent to a group of jackers intent on getting Grace Kennedy's cash. When Grace's offices closed at 5:00 yesterday, Joseph Eagan along with armed security guard Yolanda Guy, got on a motor scooter to go just
across the road to deposit the money in the Scotia Bank. But a group of at least three men were waiting for them in this Mazda 626, and they forced the scooter off the highway. The two Grace employees fell to the ground and two men wearing masked and armed with handguns grabbed the messenger's knapsack containing over 20 thousand dollars in checks and 5 thousand dollars in cash. They also took the security guard's revolver, and then sped off.
The daring crime was compounded by a reckless escape as the robbers knocked down 18 year old Ernesto Dominguez a few hundred feet up the road. He has been treated for those injuries and released. Police have one suspect, but no one detained. They have also tracked down the owner of the car, which starts with a pen, but believe that he may have sold it and failed to transfer the title.
