Plain old revenge. That is what police investigators believe led 25 year old Darwin Soberanis to brutally beat his ex-girlfriend's father to death with an aluminum baseball bat on Friday.

The suspect along with his alleged accomplice Andrew Luke Moody are detained pending charges for the murder of 51 year old Gabriel Pinelo at his 18th Street Home in San Ignacio Town.

Again police have yet to formally charge the duo but 7NEWS understands that the deceased disapproved of his daughter's relationship with Soberanis and so the young lady broke it off. She then found a new boyfriend at the University of Belize's campus at central farm where she is a first year student.

That didn't sit too well with Soberanis who decided to settle the score. Sources say that on Friday, he broke into the Pinelo family home along with his accomplice and laywaited the family. The father was the first to arrive and that is when he was ambushed and bludgeoned with the bat. Police say the duo then dragged Pinelo's body and hid it under a bed while they waited for the rest of the family to arrive. The daughter was next and after seeing the door opened and also reportedly spotting Soberanis, she ran off can called the cops. Pinelo's body was found later while the two suspects were detained.

Gabriel Pinelo's funeral is tomorrow while the two accused are still in police custody.
