It's a quiet, nondescript village sitting near the Belize-Guatemala border, but Bullet Tree has been witness to many violent armed assaults. On Sunday night, it saw another outrageous attack and police haven't even bothered to report it.
Nelsie Peck, the barkeep at the Pride of Mopan Bar reports that at 8:30, 8 armed men, one with a shotgun and one with an assault rifle and the others with pistols, stormed into the bar. They held her at gunpoint, beat up one of the patron and then helped themselves to the cash drawer which had $500 and assorted items including the CD players and Peck's jewelry. After they were done, the men walked out and fled across the border into Guatemala.
Police believe that Guatemalan bandits are responsible for repeated armed robberies and assaults in the Bullet Tree Area.
