Police Constable Sheldon Arzu will stand trial in the Supreme Court for shooting and killing Ruben "Pony" Alarcon inside a Caye Caulker police station back in June of 2003.

Today Magistrate Harry Hulett found that a prima facie case has been established against Arzu and committed him to face manslaughter charges in the January session of the Supreme Court. "Pony" Alarcon was allegedly shot by Constable Arzu. Arzu claims he pulled his gun only after Alarcon pulled a machete. Until his case comes up in the Supreme Court, Constable Arzu has been released on $5,000 bail.

We note that earlier this year, Alarcon's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the police department and government of Belize for his death.
