42-year-old BDF sergeant Alejandro Chi was found guilty of the carnal knowledge of a 13 year old girl today. A jury of 6 women and 3 men needed only 30 minutes to come up with the verdict. Crown counsel Kamar Henry tendered evidence showing that on August 16, 2002 Sergeant Chi pulled the young girl into a bedroom and committed the offence her while her sisters were sleeping. Chi, who was un-defended, gave a statement form the dock saying that he was at the home at the time but did not commit the offence. He says the 13 year old was lying simply to get back at him for not lending her his cellular phone to call a boyfriend. But the jury didn't buy it, and today Justice John Gonzalez adjourned sentencing until December 17. He did advise Chi to prepare a mitigation plea because the minimum sentence is 12 years and it can extend to life imprisonment.
