Two years ago one of the buildings at the Biscayne Government School was destroyed by fire. Nearly two years later, today a former student Lorenzo Smith was convicted of arson for setting the fire. Smith was sentenced to 12 years in jail. The school was set on fire the weekend of June 13th 2003 and it destroying a building which housed two computer rooms and a kitchen. Back at the time of the fire, teachers told 7NEWS that Smith had a long standing feud with those at the school and it is believed that was the motive.
