Westby also addressed one of the more pressing issues he's inherited while taking over the leadership of the department, that is the case of Leslie Rogers Jr. and the policeman who killed him, Aldo Ayuso. To this, Westby says like everybody else Ayuso deserves due process.
Gerald Westby, Commissioner of Police
"Let the DPP do his job. We may need to look at these cases quite objectively, look at the evidence because sometimes its not all what is perceived out there, or all what is said in the media, that is correct. Let us see what the evidence is and let the DPP direct how he wishes to proceed with that. But I want to equally say, not in relation to this particular case, but I will be very strong on dishonesty. Only over the weekend we had two policeman that were interdicted, I will not call names, but I will not tolerate dishonesty nor will I tolerate brutality. I want to make that emphatically clear but equally I will support my police officers when they are doing their job and I want to make that emphatically clear. I will not jump to conclusions, I will have things investigated and (act) based on the evidence, based on the evidence, because police are entitled to due process."
Westby continues his countrywide tour of the department on Friday when he heads up to Dangriga.
