Accused killer Michael Faux turned himself into police this morning, we'll have that story in a moment, but first we go to the man who up until one hour ago had shot to the top of police's most wanted list. About one hour ago Edwardo Barahona who is wanted for questioning in connection with Friday afternoon's broad daylight murder of David Vasquez near downtown Belize City turned himself into San Pedro Police. The surrender was negotiated by Barahona's family along with the San Pedro Sun and 7NEWS.
The family contacted 7NEWS this afternoon and told us that Barahona was willing to turn himself into police but he was afraid to do so. We contacted our colleagues on the island at the San Pedro Sun and this evening the paper's Associate Editor Kainie Manuel along with Mayor Elsa Paz, who is a Justice of the Peace, accompanied Barahona to the police station. The San Pedro Sun provided us with these pictures of the surrender. Barahona was detained and is scheduled to be transported to Belize City tomorrow where he'll be questioned.
Yesterday police stopped short of calling Barahona a suspect, they said he was only wanted for questioning. Barahona's family stressed he surrendered willingly and he had nothing to do with the murder of David Vasquez. Barahona has been hiding out in San Pedro since Saturday and his family urged him to talk to police after investigators began closing in on him. He has already obtained legal counsel.
