A woman is dead and three children are hospitalized as a result of a serious road accident.
43-year-old Guatemalan national Roy Alex Bennett told police that at around 7:30 on Sunday morning he was driving his Toyota Prado toward San Ignacio when between miles 46 and 47 on the Western Highway he lost control of his vehicle. As a result he collided with a green Geo Metro car that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Metro, 30-year-old Mary Banman died on the spot after receiving severe head and body injuries. Of 4 children who were traveling with Banman at the time two had to be hospitalized. 8-year-old Tracey Banman and 3-year-old Delroy Banman were admitted to the KHMH for treatment. Meanwhile 7-year-old Christopher Bennett who was traveling in the Prado also received head and body injuries and was also hospitalized. 4 other children along with Bennett's wife and mother received only minor injuries.
Police have since arrested and charged Bennett with manslaughter by negligence, driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention and two counts of negligent grievous harm.
