The usually peaceful village of Placencia was the scene of a cruel murder this past weekend. Early Saturday morning 26-year-old Robert John Gilbert was brutally stabbed and beaten to death, and police believe that the men who did it are his girlfriend's brothers.
His family says it was a crime of passion sparked by an unresolved domestic situation. Gilbert's older brother Chris Lewis says Robert began partying in Placencia on Friday night along with 4 other people including his girlfriend of 5 years and her two brothers. At 1 am the group took their party to the Tipsy Tuna in Seine Bight Village and later ended up back in Placencia at the Manatee Inn. That is where Chris Lewis says one thing led to another and by 4:05 am his brother was dead.

“My brother was at a party next door to where I live with a group of friends in Placencia drinking. According to what I know they left in a vehicle to continue drinking. They ended up in Seine Bight and a couple other bars then I heard they ended up at this Italian guy that was with them house and this is where the murder took place. This is where my brother received couple stab wounds and from the next door neighbors that heard it and witnessed it, they told me he also received a blow to the head while lying on the ground.
I understand from them it was because my brother got jealous because the girl was supposedly had an affair with one of the guys once before and I am guessing it turned into a fight. Her two brothers were also present and between them all I guess it occurred that somebody stabbed him.
My brother only stayed there because he loved his kids and he was trying to get out of Placencia. He has two weeks remaining in Placencia. He had people helping him to get a visa out of the country. He already got his stuff to get out of the country, but he didn’t make it.
My mother is not taking this too good, none of us are. We’re just trying to hold it together. All we want is justice. We want to see the people that stabbed Bobby and put him in the ground, we want justice served. We don’t want an open and shut case, I want justice.”
Today Placencia police charged brothers 23-year-old Andre Moody and 22-year-old Anthony Moody with murder. Meanwhile a post mortem on Robert Gilbert will be performed on Wednesday.
