Tonight, what's old is new in the UDP as the man who transformed the word ‘flippin' from an acrobatic maneuver into a swear word is back in Stann Creek West. Former UDP Minister of Work Melvin Hulse made a big` comeback yesterday in the divisional convention when he beat Johnny Chee by nearly 1,000. 1,348 votes were cast and Hulse got 1,119 of them, while Chee got 199 and Rudolph Williams ranked a distant third with 27 votes. There were 3 spoilt ballots.
And in Lake I a division which the PUP's Cordel Hyde won by a convincing 1,265 votes in 2003, two newcomers Vandley Jenkins and Mark King were only able to bring out half of that number, 624, to that constituency's convention yesterday. And of the 624 Vandley won with 327 votes while 290 went to King.
The UDP convention caravan moves to Cayo Central next Sunday.
