He represents the Government of Lebanon in Belize but last night diplomatic immunity couldn't save Sarkis Abou-Nehra from a shootout with armed trespassers.

The 67-year-old diplomat told police that around 2 am this morning he was inside his Burrell Boom home sleeping when there was a knock at his door. He says he grabbed his licensed 9-millimeter and opened his door. And as he opened the door, two men who were in the hallway opened fire. Abou-Nehra tells police he fired back and that sent the pair hightailing out of his compound. Abou-Nehra received a minor bullet wound to his right middle finger for which he was treated at the hospital. Police are now seeking the two intruders.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abou-Nehra's official title is Honorary Consul General of Lebanon. He lives on a fairly palatial estate just outside Burrell Boom village. It is a location where he hosted a slew of government ministers for a party, complete with police security, in September.
