There's another gun on the streets and a free wheeling security guard is to blame. Police today took 23 year old security guard David Meighan to court to be charged with the theft of a point 38 smith and Wesson revolver. The security guard's employer Joseph Meighan, brother to the accused David, reported that the revolver was issued to David at around 9:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve. When Joseph asked David for the gun on Monday January 2nd, David said he took it home and it was stolen.
David's story is that he used the gun to do security duty at a store on Albert Street and after this he took the gun home knowing that it was against company policy. He adds that he took the gun to his home, and hid it under a pallet that was in the yard. However he claims that a neighborhood youth saw him place the gun there and went in and took it. David claims he set chase but before the youth tossed the gun into another yard where a friend of his continued with the pistol relay.
Though Meighan claims he told the police who took it, police have not recovered the gun, and David Meighan was today charged. He pleaded not guilty to theft in Magistrate's Court and was let out on $750 bail. Police have since picked up the two other men who allegedly ran off with the gun. But they have not been charged.
