He said he was liable for missing money at City Hall and now former PUP Mayor David Fonseca is living up to his word. Mayor Zenaida Moya today confirmed that early last week Fonseca's attorney Richard "Dickie" Bradley wrote to the council telling the Mayor that Fonseca will pay back $218,000 in personal loans he got from the council.

The letter informs that Fonseca will pay back $68,0000 within a month of March 20, and then will pay 50 thousand dollars a month for three months thereafter, adding up to $218,000. Moya today told us she will accept the payment, but will not drop the criminal complaint she has made against Fonseca. That, she says, is another matter.

So if Fonseca makes good on the commitment made by his lawyer, he will have paid back the $30,000 to cover bad cheques that he wrote to the council and $218,000 to cover the personal loans or salary advances that he received. Of course, that's still not the end of it. There's another $155,000 that he received for a social assistance program for which he has not accounted. Mayor Moya says that matter is still very live, and the issue of the repayment of the social fund monies will now go to their legal counsel.

As for Fonseca, 7NEWS has confirmed from PUP sources that he will leave office as the Party's Secretary General at the end of this month. Fonseca had told us that he signed a two year contract with the Party Chairman, his cousin Francis Fonseca on march third. Now, bowing to extreme pressure form disgruntled party and executive members, he has resigned.
