They allegedly shot at a police officer who foiled their robbery attempt last week and tonight 23-year-old Joseph Almendarez and Ernest Hinds are in jail.
As we reported, on Wednesday night Sergeant Andrew Ramirez was inside Henry's Restaurant and Bar on Central American Boulevard when the two would-be robbers entered with masks and guns. But before they could finish their hold-up, Sergeant Ramirez identified himself as a police officer and that is when one of the bandits fired a single shot which tore through Ramirez's shirt right above the waist, missing his mid-section by less than an inch.
The men fled but early Friday morning police searched room number 2 of a house on Gill Street in, which Almendarez and Hinds were sleeping. In that room police also found a.38 special Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with 4 live rounds.
Today in court both men were formally charged with attempted robbery and three counts of aggravated assault in addition to the possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Hinds, who also goes by the name Deon Buller, and Almendarez, whose alias is Hector Conorque, were denied bail and remanded to the Hattieville Prison. They will be back in court on April 27th.
