A Belize City man is tonight still puzzling over how burglars broke into his home and made off with an assortment of household items in broad daylight. Businessman Naim El Amin says his home was broken into on Tuesday between the hours of 10 and 4 in the afternoon and no one knows who it was. I spoke to the young man as he tried to gather composure after loosing thousands of dollars worth of home furnishings.
Alfonso Noble Reporting,
Naim El Amin is still amazed today at how burglars, in broad daylight, on Tuesday afternoon cleaned out his home. They gained entry from the rear, where the only two windows on the entire house which do not have burglary bars are located. Once inside it was easy going. They broke down his bedroom door, tore open the locks on the back door and they made off with just about anything they could find.
Naim El-Amin, Burglary Victim
"Some of my neighbors saw the people leaving out of my house. They left two times, one 1 o'clock and the other at 4 o'clock. They made two trips out of my house in a red maroon looking SUV type vehicle."
El Amin says his losses amount in the thousands.
Naim El-Amin,
"About $15,000 worth of stuff; TVs, DVD players, clothes, jewelry, money, household appliances-everything. They went with knives, forks, socks-whatever."
Included in the loot was a huge television set that this young man says could only have been taken with some great effort.
Naim El-Amin,
"It weighs at least 500 pounds, you need at least two strong man to take it. It is a 60 inch wall mount RCA projection TV."
El Amin speculates that the burglars were inside his home for at least four hours and while burglarizing the home was bad enough, he says that making matters worse is that these thieves that can only be classified as facey, took liberties in the home as if they were owners. They sat in the living room to have a few snacks and even used the bathrooms.
Naim El-Amin,
"It was ransacked, everything. They were eating in the house and they

left the good right in the living room like they planned to come back. They used the bathroom, it looked like they used the shower and everything and wet up the place.
I don't really feel violated. I kind of feel angry and they have me living in fear. Not fear for my life, but fear that if I meet them, what I will do to them. I am just more or less angry and hopefully I find out who did it.
I think I will recover because I don't really get any kind of attachment to material stuff. I could lose everything because you can work and get it back but just the way how everything happened is what gets me upset."
And while he is upset he is calm enough to have gathered enough composure to have made a profile of those who broke in based on what his neighbors told him.
Naim El-Amin,
"They described a young lady, a red skinned of Creole descent, she comes around people's houses with a kid and she goes looking around people's houses and if the people are home and they spot her, she tells them she is looking for assistance because she has this kid and whatever whatever. But what she really does is scope out the area and if she finds out that no one is home, she gets two males because two times they left my house, one at four o'clock and the other at one o'clock. Two males of Creole descent and the red skinned young lady my neighbor saw leaving from my house. The only thing is that the neighbors who saw them leaving and the neighbors who they tried to steal from were different so the ones who saw didn't really make the connection until the day after, the Wednesday when I told them about it."
Alfonso Noble,
When the neighbors saw the activity at your house, what did they think was happening?
Naim El-Amin,
"Well they said they thought I was moving and so they didn't pay it any mind but it was a different set of neighbors than the ones who had chased the young lady because if they had seen them, they would have called the police because from what I understand this young lady, I talked to my friends and they said they saw this same young lady in King's Park too so that she moves around and tries to check out areas. She always walks with a little young girl and says she is asking for assistance. If anybody sees a girl like that, they should just watch out."
El Amin says the police have visited his home to take fingerprints and investigate the matter. Meanwhile he says he is moving out.
