A Belize City man will spend the long weekend in police custody, accused of a despicable act. Police say that this morning the 33 year old man undressed and proceeded to rape his 10 year old step daughter in the open waters just off the spot known as Old College Beach in the Yabra Area, near the Esso Depot. It happened around nine this morning and it was an alert security guard who saw something very wrong happening and called police. She has asked us to conceal her identity but told us that what she saw almost made her cry.

Jennifer,
"Around 9:10 this morning I saw this gentleman and this young lady came to the water side and the man walked into the water and a little while after the little girl came in behind him and they went a little bit out to the waist. And he started, probably they were talking or something because the little girl was standing back and he pulled her hands like two times and she pulled away her hand and there was a lady outside that called the young lady and she went and got a orange or something and came like halfway back into the water. She was eating the orange and then the guy called her like two different times and she went over to the guy, stood in front of him, and he turned her around and had his hands around her.

A little while after I got concerned and I called the police and within that time, when he turned the little around, that was very scary because he took off the child's clothes, everything he took off, because we were looking at them. And there was a man on a cycle that came by and we showed him and he yelled for the little girl but nobody didn't respond to us. So we called the police again and they said there were coming right away.

And we watched them out there for a little while and a little while after the police came by, fired two shots at them, and that is when the guy came out by himself. But before that, when the police came and they fired the shot, the guy started to help the child put on back her clothes."

Keith Swift,
So what was she wearing when the police arrived?

Jennifer,
"When the police came by she didn't have on the clothes again but she had on like a little blue looking shirt. This little girl, to my belief, she was 11 to 12 years old. That is what I would say and this guy was probably in his late thirties."

Keith Swift,
What made you call the police?

Jennifer,
"I have kids too and really and truly these men are here with these little girls, ruining these little girls' lives and I think it is unfair before these guys are just doing their stuff and getting away with it. There is a lot of sickness out here and that child could get the same."

Keith Swift,
You must have been outraged.

Jennifer,
"Yes I was terrified because to my belief it seemed to me that it could have been my little girl out there. And then the other co-workers who I showed were all crying because then this man had his hand on this little girl and we don't know what they were doing."

The child was taken to the hospital for a medical examination. The results of that will determine whether or not the stepfather will be charged.
