22-year-old Orange Walk resident Gregorio Tillet, was decapitated in a brutal traffic accident this weekend. The stage for the accident was set on Friday evening at 5:00 when 31-year-old Delpin Perez was driving to Orange Walk with a pickup truck full of logs. At mile 25, the truck experienced two blowouts. When nightfall came, he hadn't finished fixing the truck and he couldn't get it off the road, so he lit a fire behind it to alert drivers to the obstruction. But it wasn't enough for 29-year-old Servio Tillet who was driving northbound in a Ford Ranger along with two other Bowen and Bowen employees. He collided with the pickup and one of the logs ripped off the top of the Ranger and decapitated Gregorio Tillet who was in the back seat. Servio Tillet and his passenger Elitorio Canul received injuries to their faces, while Perez was nowhere near the accident and was unhurt.
Police have not yet determined if they will charge Perez for some type of contributory negligence but report that the fire was still visible when they arrived at the scene.
