A post mortem examination on the body of 10-year-old Natalie Forbes has certified that she died as a result of drowning. While that was never in question what the circumstances surrounding the death remain a matter of concern. An investigation will determine if negligence was involved. But before that is completed, Natalie's grieving mother Bernadine Forbes has come forward to get her 4-year-old child Molisha (Moesha) back. Tonight she explains that she wants to hand the child over to another woman, Evadne Jones, who's says she's been caring for the entire Forbes family for years now.
Evadne Jones, Godmother
"I need to have my goddaughter because I made a promise before man and God. I stood up and said, 'yes I will take care of that child if anything happened to the parents.' If the father was alive he would have wanted me to have Molisha. Bernadine wanted me to have Molisha. Bernardine wrote a letter and gave it to the court and yet they still overruled that. They didn't take that, they just put it one side and said they cannot give me the child. When there was the case they called me in, I went in and they said I couldn't get the children. When I asked why I couldn't have the children, they said because I can't provide adequate care. I don't know what is adequacy for them but if I cannot provide adequate care, during the 8 years when I helped Bernadine with the children, for herself and her husband, none of them died. None of them died. They are all big and strong.
Three weeks to the day when this little girl died, three weeks ago they took Natalie from my home and in that three weeks time Natalie died on the very day which completed three weeks. You call that fair? All I want is Molisha. They could have whatever they want if that is the problem."
Jones today told us they are still trying to get a variance of the court order that placed the children under foster care.
