The police force armorer Albert Ciego could be facing dismissal. After losing Said Perdomo's nine-millimeter Glock pistol earlier this month, the Internal Affairs Department found that he had acted with extreme negligence, and ordered him to pay for the $3,000 gun. But that disciplining may not be enough, word to 7NEWS that the senior command has decided that he will be dismissed. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid said that the command is leaning to relieving him of his duties, but, according to him, deliberations are not yet final.
Of course, Ciego's fairly long service with the Police Department, dating back to around 1998, owes much to the fact that he was often used as a legal lynchpin; that is, he provided expert testimony in criminal cases as a firearms specialist.
