While the border melts away into an adjacency zone, Santa Rosa goes from an encroachment to a settlement, and a territorial dispute softens into a differendum, and oil fields freely co-mingle beneath the soil, just so, as if part of a greater plan, Belizean and Guatemalan businesses, media, labour unions and now sports councils are coming together. The National Sports Council has announced the formation of a sports, recreational and cultural commission formed between the two countries.

During a conference held between the 16th and 18th of this month in Santa Elena, Peten sports delegates form both countries agreed to the formation of the commission. It is tasked with bringing Belize and Guatemala closer through sports, recreational activities and culture. Each country now has an 8 member representation.

Belize's Commission is led by Hugh 'Pinnas' Staine while Elvis Yosari Campos Perez heads Guatemala's commission.
